IBA Player Code of Conduct

1. Understand and play by the rules. The rules exist for the safety and enjoyment of all people involved in basketball.

2. Never argue with an official. If you disagree, nominate a team captain to approach the referee during a break or after the game in an appropriate manner.

 3. Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted in basketball.

 4. Be a good sport. Acknowledge all good plays whether they be by your team or the other team.

 5. Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player or team.

In Social Competitions:

                                            I.      Play fair. Remember that this competition is for fun and involves people of all ages and abilities. It is not polite to demoralise or humiliate a team unnecessarily, particularly if your team is already winning by a large margin.

II.      Be courteous. This competition involves men, women, young players and players with special needs. In particular, men need to be aware of their physical size and strength – it is not appropriate to push through women or younger, smaller players. This can cause serious injury and ruin the enjoyment of the game.

 6. Respect the rights of others and avoid use of derogatory language based on gender, race or impairment.

 7. Always respect the use of facilities and equipment provided.

 8. All players participating in the senior competitions must be 14 years old(Proof of age may be requested).
