J-ball is an introductory basketball program for girls and boys in Grades 4 to 6. The program is player-centred, fun-focused and affordable to all. It provides opportunities to learn, opportunities to play with your friends, and opportunities to develop important social skills in a convenient safe and friendly environment.

What are the aims of the J-ball program?

First and foremost J-ball is designed to be safe for children and to be enjoyable for both players and parents. Sessions emphasise involvement and are designed to gradually build confidence, create a positive outlook on physical activity, and develop healthy lifestyles, teamwork and basketball skills. The program is specifically built around basic introductory basketball skills.

How does J-ball work?

Players are placed into teams on registration day and a rotating draw is implemented. All games comprise of a 45 minute time slot, comprising a 30 minute game and a 15 minute training session. Coaches remain on the court during games to assist the players. Teams are made up in school age groups, Grade 4, 5 and 6 along with a development squad for more advanced players. The season is finalised with a round robin day in which all teams play each other in 15 minute games. Grand finals complete the day and all players receive a medallion for participation in the season. The Winter season runs from February to June and the Summer season runs from August to December.

Uniforms and equipment

To keep costs down for families, all uniform singlets are supplied. Players need only ensure they have shorts and suitable footwear. Basketballs are also supplied.

Where and when

J-ball is at St Joseph’s College Stadium, on the corner of Eleventh St and Riverside Ave in Mildura. It runs every Saturday morning between 9 am and 1 pm.

How to register

You can register for J-ball with an online registration form or by attending on registration day. The date of registration day for the comming season is Saturday the 21st of February 2009 at the St Joseph Stadium at 11.00a.m. All intending players must attend the registration day.

Estimated costs per player

            Weekly player charges: $5 per game.
   Season registration: $10 per season.
   VCBC insurance: $26 per year.
