INDEPENDENT BEER AWARDS AND VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Wednesday 29 – Thursday 30 September, Eagle Farm Racecourse. Brisbane

The Independent Brewers Association (IBA) is seeking beer lovers to join our crew of volunteers at the Independent Beer Awards Judging in Brisbane.

Please note: Some extra days may be added. Please indicate all days that you can be available.

  • Ideally availability for both judging days (if able).
  • Volunteers need to be aged 18 or over.

ROLES REQUIRED

SET UP & PACK DOWN CREW: TUESDAY 28 SEPTEMBER – FRI 1 OCTOBER

COMPETITION TEAM: WEDNESDAY 29 – THURSDAY 30 SEPTEMBER

The competition team helps with the delivery of beer during the judging process and adds value the integrity of the competition. Full and half-day shifts are available and we prefer volunteers to be able to commit to the full two days of competition but understand this may not be possible. Please indicate your availability on the application form.

Steward Duties include:

  • Take direction from the operations team
  • Room preparation and set up of competition specific requirements
  • Ensure all beer is presented and in competition order
  • Accuracy with competition data (in order, correct beer, proper pouring technique and amount, proper temperature)
  • Organising and labelling glassware for competition judging
  • Opening, pouring and serving packaged beers for judging
  • Glass washing and replenishing
  • Clearing and cleaning of Judging tables and back of house areas
  • Replenishing palate cleansers on Judges’ tables as required
  • Liaise with Table Captain regarding timing and delivery of beer

Keg Crew Duties include:

  • Accuracy with competition data (in order, correct beer, proper pouring technique and amount, proper temperature)
  • Previous experience with draught beer systems required
  • Tap and pour draught beers for judging
  • Ability to washout beer lines and swap out couplers quickly
  • Moving kegs of various sizes- heavy lifting involved
  • Liaise with table steward regarding timing and delivery of beer

** Please note: If you are currently affiliated with a brewery entering the competition, we will not be able to place you as a steward, however you are able to volunteer in the staging area.
